Bibury: A Fairytale Village in the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds has always been one of my favourite areas in the UK – full of charming villages, rolling hills, and golden-stone cottages. It’s only about an hour and a half’s drive from Bristol, which makes it a perfect countryside day trip when you need a little escape from city life.

There are so many villages scattered across the Cotswolds, and some are only accessible by car. But even if you’re using public transport, there are a few you can reach by train and bus. This time, though, We drove to one of my absolute favourites: Bibury – a place that honestly feels like stepping into a fairytale.

A Tiny Village with Fairytale Charm

Bibury is a small, peaceful village, so you can easily explore it in just a few hours. The line of stone cottages along the quiet street, with a river running through the village, feels straight out of a storybook. Walking by the water, surrounded by nature and birdsong, I felt like I’d wandered into a different world – a calm, timeless countryside escape.

Meeting the Swans by the River

The Swan Hotel is one of Bibury’s landmarks, and its name couldn’t be more fitting. I was lucky enough to see real swans gliding gracefully along the river right in front of it. The moment felt so peaceful and beautiful – it made me want to come back one day and actually stay at the Swan Hotel. It looks like the perfect spot for a relaxing countryside stay (definitely on my wish list for next time!).

Lunch at Eleven Bibury – A Must-Visit Café

My favourite discovery in Bibury was Eleven Bibury, a stylish café and restaurant that’s perfect for both lunch and coffee breaks. I ordered a salad from their selection, a slice of my favourite carrot cake, and a cup of coffee – everything was absolutely delicious.

What really made this place special, though, was the atmosphere. Each room has a beautifully thought-out design, full of character and warmth. I also loved the terrace seats – perfect for enjoying the fresh air and slow pace of the village. Whether you’re just passing through or spending a full afternoon, Eleven Bibury is a spot I can truly recommend.
