We went on a road trip from Bristol to Cheddar, and it was my first time visiting this charming place.
Cheddar turned out to be a wonderful spot for enjoying a walk surrounded by nature.
The drive to Cheddar from Bristol takes about 40 minutes.
Along the way, we enjoyed picturesque countryside views, spotting animals like sheep, cows, and horses.
I love road trips because they allow me to discover so many scenic English landscapes that I’ve never seen before. From unique English houses to rural areas dotted with animals, the countryside views here are so different from those in Japan.
We arrived in Cheddar around lunchtime and decided to eat at a traditional pub called “The White Hart.”
I tried the roast ham dish and a half pint of beer.
The meal felt very “English” to me, served with peas and fries. I personally prefer mashed peas, though.

Afterward, we visited a cozy cafe called “Cafe Gorge” for coffee.
The scone there was absolutely delicious—one of my all-time favorites.
I noticed a big difference between the scones here in the U.K. and the ones I’ve had in Japan.
I prefer British scones because their texture is lighter and more biscuit-like. While I’m here, I’d love to try baking scones myself!

Following our meal, we went on a short hike, which turned out to be a wonderful experience.
The view from the top was breathtaking! The sky was painted in beautiful shades of orange that day, and I loved every moment.
We also spotted goats climbing the hill, which was such a charming sight.

The hiking path was peaceful and calming, and I felt completely relaxed and at ease.
I’d definitely love to return here in the summer for a longer hike and to explore more of the area.
Let me know if you have any favorite hiking spots near Bristol—I’d love to hear your recommendations!
